TradeZella alternatives: 7 trading journals compared by price and fit

TradeZella raised its prices in July 2026 and still has no free plan. What TraderSync, TradesViz, Tradervue, Edgewonk, StatWidget, TradeNote and a plain spreadsheet offer instead, what each costs over a year, and which trader each one suits.

The best TradeZella alternative depends on what you use TradeZella for. For automatic broker import and trade replay, TraderSync is the closest match: it has a free Basic plan, and paid plans start at $29.95 a month. TradesViz is free for stocks and costs $19.99 a month for every asset class. Edgewonk gives you every feature for $197 per 12 months, and Tradervue’s free plan covers up to 30 trades a month. If you lose money by breaking your own rules rather than for lack of statistics, StatWidget checks each entry before you click.

Disclosure: StatWidget is our product. Prices and plan limits for every tool come from the vendors’ own pages, checked on 5 November 2026. Vendors change them often, so confirm before you pay.

Why traders look for a TradeZella alternative

TradeZella is a strong journal. It syncs with 500+ brokers, replays your trades, runs backtests and tracks prop firm accounts. In July 2026 it moved to three plans and raised prices: Essential is now $35 a month, Pro $59 and the new Ultra $99. Annual billing saves 25%.

The reasons people start looking elsewhere are usually practical:

  • Price. Trade replay and more than one broker account now start at $59 a month on the Pro plan.
  • No free plan. You can’t keep a free account to test the journal with your own broker data first.
  • Prop firm accounts. Essential covers one broker account, so traders running several evaluations at once need Pro.
  • A different problem. Some traders don’t need more statistics. They need to stop taking the trades those statistics later show as losers.

1. TraderSync: the closest like-for-like replacement

If you like how TradeZella works and only want to pay less or try before you buy, start here. TraderSync imports trades from 700+ brokers and platforms, has a market replay simulator and an AI analyst, Cypher, that answers questions about your trades.

Price: Pro $29.95, Premium $49.95 and Elite $79.95 a month; billed yearly, Pro comes to $269.52 a year. Paid plans have a 7-day free trial. The free Basic plan has no time limit and includes unlimited manual entry and 30 file-imported executions a month.

  • Good for: active stock, options and futures traders who want automation and replay.
  • Watch out: Cypher is limited to 5 messages a day on Pro, and the most precise replay is on Elite.

2. TradesViz: the most features for the money

TradesViz is built for traders who like data. It has hundreds of charts and statistics, AI summaries of your trading and a full trading simulator on the Platinum plan.

Price: Basic is free forever for stocks, with up to 3,000 executions a month and one account. Pro costs $19.99 a month ($14.99 billed yearly) and adds options, futures, forex, crypto and CFDs and up to 10 accounts. Platinum costs $29.99 a month and adds the simulator and options flow. Paid plans have a 7-day trial.

  • Good for: data-minded traders on a budget, and stock traders who want a free journal.
  • Watch out: the number of reports can feel overwhelming at first, and the free plan covers stocks only.

3. Tradervue: a free plan for low trade counts

Tradervue is one of the long-standing names in trade journaling. It has detailed reports, notes and charts for every trade, and you can share trades with a mentor or with your mentees.

Price: the free Basic plan covers up to 30 trades a month. Silver costs $29.95 a month (unlimited trades and accounts, broker sync, advanced reports), and Gold costs $49.95 (adds exit analysis, maximum potential P&L, and commissions and fees). The 7-day trial turns into a paid plan unless you switch to the free plan before it ends.

  • Good for: swing traders and part-time traders with a few dozen trades a month.
  • Watch out: its pricing page lists no annual discount, AI tools or market replay.

4. Edgewonk: one plan, built around trading psychology

Edgewonk has one feature set for everyone, with a strong focus on the trader: psychology tracking, strategy checklists and your trading routine sit next to the usual performance analytics. It covers forex, stocks, futures, crypto, indices, commodities and options.

Price: $35 a month or $197 per 12 months, with VAT added at checkout in some countries. There is no free plan, but there is a 14-day, 100% money-back guarantee.

  • Good for: traders who want the full feature set at a predictable yearly price.
  • Watch out: no free plan or trial, so the money-back guarantee is your trial.

5. StatWidget: discipline before the trade, not after

Every journal above analyses trades that are already closed. StatWidget works earlier, at the moment the costly mistakes happen. A small window stays on top of your charts on Windows and macOS. You start the day with a plan (readiness scored 1–10) and answer your own checklist before every entry: setup, risk, and honest questions like “is this revenge or FOMO?”. Each entry gets a score from 1 to 10, and the trade lands in your web dashboard with the answers, your emotions, screenshots, tags and the result.

Price: $19 a month or $159 a year. There is no free plan, but your first payment is fully refunded if you ask within 14 days.

  • Good for: discretionary forex, futures and crypto traders, and prop firm traders who know their rules but break them under pressure.
  • Watch out: no broker import, trade replay or backtesting. Trades are logged when you fill in the checklist, which is the point of the tool, not an oversight.

6. TradeNote: free, open source and self-hosted

TradeNote is an open-source trading journal released under the GNU GPL v3 licence. You run it yourself with Docker and MongoDB, import trades from broker files, and keep every byte of your data on your own machine or server.

  • Good for: traders who care most about privacy and are comfortable with a bit of server work.
  • Watch out: setup, updates and backups are your job, and support comes from the community.

7. A spreadsheet or Notion: free and fully yours

For a few trades a week, a well-designed spreadsheet still works: date, instrument, setup, entry, stop, exit, result in R, and one line about your state. It costs nothing and does exactly what you build. The trade-off is time: everything is typed by hand, and you only get the statistics you build yourself.

How to choose a TradeZella alternative

There is no single best trading journal. The right one depends on where your money actually goes.

  • You like TradeZella and want to pay less: TraderSync or TradesViz.
  • You want a free trading journal: TradesViz Basic for stocks, TraderSync Basic for manual entry, Tradervue for up to 30 trades a month, or TradeNote if you can host it.
  • You want every feature at a fixed yearly price: Edgewonk.
  • Your losses come from breaking your own rules: a pre-trade checklist such as StatWidget, alone or next to any journal above.
  • You take a few trades a week: a spreadsheet is enough to start.

Journal after the trade or checklist before it?

A journal tells you on Friday what Tuesday’s revenge trade cost. A checklist asks the question on Tuesday, before you click. The two do different jobs, and many traders end up using both: a journal for review and a checklist for execution.

If you’re not sure which one you need, look at your last ten losing trades. If most of them followed your plan, you need better analysis, and any journal above will help. If most of them broke a rule you already had, you need to stop those entries before they happen. Start with the pre-trade checklist: 12 questions to answer before every trade, and if the losses come in clusters, read how to stop revenge trading.
